Well I want to say I am surprised a web site as large as Tech Crunch was hacked, but I really am not. I believe TC uses one of the largest open source blogging platforms on the web today. WordPress has thousands, if not millions of users world wide blogging at all hours of the day. Open source software are easy targets, especially when the software is as popular as WordPress. With the increased popularity comes increased attention from hackers. Once a script is released to gain access to a WordPress install, it spreads quickly and those who don’t update their software fall victim to these script kiddies.

Although, I bet even if they weren’t using WordPress, they still would of been hacked – eventually.

A security analyst firm decided to take the time to gather some interesting figures on password choices of the 32 million users of Rockyou. If you aren’t familiar, Rockyou stored all passwords in plain, unencrypted text, thus allowing a hacker to download and make use of this information – you can read more on TechCrunch. Anyhow I find the results pretty standard, the most common password used was made up of ‘123456,’ followed by ‘12345,’ and ‘123456789.’ Pretty incredible in today’s technology centric environment where most of those users probably use the same password across multiple platforms.

I wonder how many of those accounts which used these common accounts were created as one time use accounts, where the user never intended to store anything vital or to return to the site again…

Well as 2009 comes to a close and we open a new chapter for 2010 (twenty ten or two thousand and ten?) I can definitely say what a ride. I can’t decide if 2009 was a great or not so great – it had moments both ways.

The only thing which really matters though is my family is all well and I completed a section of education called the Bachelors Degree(Productions and Operations Management/Information Systems). This peice of paper now grants me the opportunity (come on opportunity, come out from wherever you are hiding…i have candy) to earn more money than those unfortunate bastards who didn’t acquire one – but really, who doesn’t have one these days?

Rock on twenty ten.

Poker fishes

So I don’t know what is with this weird phenomenon but it seems to me players with a number of some sort in their name are always the worst players. Whenever I get on Full Tilt to play a little poker I look for the tables which signify a donk (a player who is terrible) is sitting down – usually with very high player to flop ratios (above 35%) and excessively high average pots for the blind structure (20x BB). Once I have locked onto my target table I set my sites on the donk – scouting every move a player makes and monitoring how many hands they are playing. The donk is usually pretty easy to find – just look for the numbers in their name. Almost always one of these players is the local table fish. Players such as ‘22rocks’ or ‘broseph319′ are the ones which you want to play against. If you have struck poker gold this player shall fill your tiny castle with wealth.

As Mike McDermott would say, “Listen, here’s the thing. If you can’t spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you ARE the sucker.”

Lots of people will be arguing today that this was inevitable, but the news comes faster than expected.
The resignation comes a few days after the FCC sent letters to Google, Apple and AT&T inquiring why Apple denied the Google Voice application from its iPhone App Store.
